Anal fissure

Symptom Definition

An anal fissure can cause severe pain in the anus, especially when you have a bowel movement. This pain is often described as a kind of burning. They may disappear a few minutes after bowel movement, only to return and persist for several hours.

In addition to local pain, there are other symptoms:

  • Itching in the anus
  • Bleeding from the anus, visible on the surface of the stool or as traces of red blood on the toilet paper
  • Spasms of the anal sphincter leading to contractions
  • Constipation due to fear of pain during defecation

Causes to be evaluated

The main causes are:

  • Constipation: causes an urge to evacuate hard and bulky stools, increasing pressure in the rectum.
  • The brutal evacuation of liquid stools: in the case of pathologies such as during gastroenteritis or Crohn's disease.
  • Childbirth: occurs in 15% of women.
  • Poor circulation in the anal area: this can be exacerbated by significant and persistent contraction of the anal sphincter, which prevents the area from being flushed.

Naturopathic Protocol

🍽️ Nutrition

  • Drink ½ cup of Aloe vera juice, 3 times a day, until anal fissures disappear.
  • Avoid constipation and choose a diet high in fiber.
  • Add a tablespoon of camelinalinseedborageevening primrose or perilla oil to your diet every day, without heating. Always choose first cold pressed oils.
  • Avoid fats, alcohol, peppers, cow's milk products, sauces, pastries and deli meats.

🌿 Phytotherapy

If necessary, for constipation caused by stress, use mild laxatives such as:

Warning! As with almost all laxatives, long-term use is not recommended (the anthracene derivatives present in this plant can irritate the gastrointestinal tract), with the risk of electrolyte loss (minerals, ....).

Activate the liver with a complex of bitter plants, including:

🌳 Gemmotherapy

These two plants strengthen the circulation and the small blood vessels.

You need to make regular cures, both preventive and curative, by taking a dose in the morning and evening before meals.

🧘‍♂️ Manual Techniques

  • Limit sitting positions and walk regularly.

🌼 Homeopathy

The homeopathic remedies administered will depend on the cause of the anal fissure.

  • For a fissure caused by hard stool, Nitricum Acidum 7CH is prescribed in a dose of 5 granules twice a day. This will also relieve the pain.
  • Another homeopathic treatment for these anal fissures is a combination of Ratanhia and Paeonia, 20 drops at midday and evening before meals.
  • As a background treatment, Calcarea Fluorica 9 CH is given at a rate of 5 granules, 3 times a week.
  • An anal fissure associated with haemorrhoids is treated with Nitricum Acidum 7CH and Ratanhia 7CH.
  • For anal fissures associated with chronic constipation, Graphites 4 CH to 7 CH is taken 4 to 6 times a day.
  • Nitricum Acidum 4 CH to 7 CH, taken 4 to 6 times a day, relieves acute pain associated with purulent stools.
  • If itching and burning persist for hours after bowel movement, Ratanhia 4CH to 7CH should be taken 4 to 6 times a day.
  • In any case, Ratanhia ointment is used locally on the anal fissures as a complementary treatment. It will help the fissures to heal.
