As the name suggests, Graphite is a homeopathic remedy derived from graphite.
Better known as "lead mine", graphite is a natural mineral composed mainly of carbon.
Being a solid in its natural state, it has many properties that allow it to be widely used in homeopathy.
In general, graphite granules are the most commonly administered form.
This particular remedy is obtained by dissolving the ore or powder and it is this solution that is diluted.
Dermatology
Graphite is widely used in dermatology, particularly for eczema which tends to be exudative.
It is also prescribed for all types of exudative lesions, especially when the discharged fluid is yellow, sticky and thick, usually with a 'honey' appearance.
This fluid tends to dry into a crust that varies in colour from golden yellow to brownish yellow.
In general, the ooze causes intense itching and a strong burning sensation.
These sensations are aggravated by heat and washing, but improved by cold.
Graphite is also prescribed for dry, coarse, rough skin.
If the person has keratosis, a thickening of the skin, treatment with graphite is necessary.
If fibrous granules form over a scar, i.e. keloids, treatment with graphite is also recommended.
Warts can also be treated with Graphites, especially if they form on the edges of the fingernails.
This homeopathic remedy is also used to treat dermatological conditions such as cracks, impetigo, intertrigos, angular cheilitis, keloids, terçol, blepharitis and callazios.
Gastroenterology
Graphite is particularly effective in treating digestive disorders.
If a person suffers from flatulence, bad breath and stomach cramps, they need treatment with graphite.
Usually, these cramps improve during digestion.
In addition to these signs, the person may also have regular constipation that becomes uncomfortable and habitual over time.
The person may also have haemorrhoids that tend to bleed at the slightest effort, similar to constipation, as well as anal fissures.
Graphite is also recommended for the treatment of dyspepsia, enterocolitis and gastroduodenal ulcers.
Gynaecology and Endocrinology
Graphite is a widely used remedy in gynaecology, both for post-menopausal women and for women who are still menstruating.
Some menstrual disorders are easily cured by taking graphite.
Usually these disorders manifest themselves as irritation of the thighs, a whitish discharge and may be accompanied by hoarseness.
If the menstrual cycle is prolonged and the periods are very scanty, treatment with graphite is necessary.
Graphite is particularly useful in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, vulvar itching and dysthyroidism.
In post-menopausal women, graphite should be given when the first hot flushes occur.
However, hot flushes can also occur during premenopause.
In addition to the hot flushes, the woman has a pale complexion and tends to gain weight, even becoming obese.
These gynaecological disorders are accompanied by hormonal imbalances and mainly affect the endocrine glands, such as the thyroid.
Hyperthyroidism is often associated with nervousness, fatigue and weight gain.
