Definition of the pathology

Eczema is an acute or chronic inflammation of the skin that can be caused by skin contact with an aggressive agent or as a result of taking medication. There are different types of eczema:

• Acute eczema: The flare-up is usually sudden and causes red, swollen patches, for example around the eyes.
• Chronic eczema: This is a particularly atopic form of eczema that is genetically caused. The person has repeated bouts of dry eczema, especially in childhood.
• Contact eczema: Caused by an allergic reaction, attacks are only occasional.
• Infected eczema: Sometimes the patches become infected and oozing, the eczema may actually be infected. You will need to see a doctor.
