Alcoholism

Definition

For the health authorities, there is no such thing as safe drinking, but rather more or less risky drinking. We speak of 'hazardous' drinking when the amount of alcohol consumed and the frequency with which it is consumed is such that physical, psychological and social complications are inevitable if this behaviour continues over a long period of time. Alcoholism is an addiction to alcohol that has harmful consequences for health, social and emotional life. Alcohol dependence is more common among men: 14% of men compared to 5% of women.

According to the WHO, alcohol dependence is evident when the consumption of alcoholic beverages takes precedence over other behaviours that were previously prevalent in a person. The desire to drink becomes uncontrollable and must be satisfied at the expense of all other considerations. Alcohol becomes an obsession. Its use must be continued, even if it leads to obviously problematic consequences.

First, the drinker develops a tolerance. He has to drink more and more alcohol to get the desired effects. Then the drinker reaches a stage where he can no longer control his consumption. Physical dependence sets in. Stopping alcohol causes withdrawal symptoms (sweating, trembling, dizziness, etc.) that are difficult to endure. In its extreme form, it leads to cirrhosis of the liver, which is irreversible.

Naturopathic Protocol

  • The first step is to determine the appropriate energetic or psycho-emotional remedies (flower essences, homeopathy) according to the psychological problem. These remedies accompany the psychotherapy or hypnosis sessions.

🍽️ Nutrition

Ancient remedy: the famous Doctor Valnet recommended the following citrus peel recipe to combat alcoholism:

  • Boil the peel of a grapefruit and an (organic) orange in 1 litre of water.
  • Leave to boil until the decoction is reduced by half.
  • Drink 1 tablespoon in the morning on an empty stomach.

🧘‍♂️ Manual Techniques

There are several things you can do to get the best out of anxiety:

  • First, you can learn to breathe better: practice abdominal breathing when you feel the first signs of anxiety. This will allow you to relax your body as much as possible.
  • The simple act of walking in a quiet, rural place can help you to let go of this uncomfortable state. In fact, walking is a powerful and very beneficial natural anti-stress agent.
  • You can also clench your fists as if you were angry, take a deep breath and relax your fists a little as you breathe out. Open your fists a little wider each time and finish by stretching your fingers as far as they will go. This will release your fear points.
  • Remember why you stopped drinking, it will motivate you and put you in perspective!
  • See an osteopath to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.

🌼 Homeopathy

  • People who drink alcohol excessively, especially those who feel drowsy but have no complications, should take Nux vomica.
  • Occasional drinkers can take Lachesis mutus. The appropriate dose for patients with obvious complications is 5 granules of Lachesis 5 CH, 2 times a day.
  • Sepia is indicated for the person who cannot lie on the right side due to enlargement of the liver.
  • The person who feels some relief when lying on the left side should take Natrum sulfuricum, especially if diarrhoea occurs after breakfast.
  • A thick tongue covered with yellowish saburra and intense salivation should be treated with Mercurius.
