Mezereum

Mezereum is extracted from the shrub Daphne mezereum. Daphne mezereum belongs to the Thymelaeaceae family and grows in the mountains of southern Asia and Europe.

The flowers of Daphne mezereum are pink or red in colour and have a pleasant scent.

Mezereum tincture is obtained from the bark, which is harvested before flowering.

It contains mezerine, a pungent resin containing diterpenic irritant principles, and daphnine, a glycoside which gives umbelliferone.

Dermatological indications

Mezereum is indicated for the treatment of skin rashes, eczema with purulent eruptions, impetigo formed by vesicles or thick crusts containing a whitish fluid.

It relieves itching with or without skin lesions.

This medicine is indicated for the treatment of chickenpox and herpes zoster, as well as herpes zoster-associated postherpetic or postherpetic neuralgia.

Mezereum is indicated for the treatment of bone pain that is aggravated by cold and damp weather, as well as pain that occurs at night and is worse on touch.
