Colloidal silver

What is colloidal silver?

It is a liquid formula consisting of silver ions and colloidal silver particles.

This solution is obtained by electrolysis.

The method of obtaining it is simple:

  • Two silver electrodes are immersed in distilled water.
  • The current flowing through the electrodes forms silver ions.

Before the advent of antibiotics, doctors used this mixture to treat infections.

The benefits of colloidal silver

According to many scientists, the benefits of colloidal silver are numerous. Here are a few:

  • Antiviral power: it would be effective in treating herpes and warts
  • Antifungal properties
  • Stimulation of the healing process in skin diseases
  • A soothing effect against itching
  • Reduces inflammation, especially of the skin
  • Prevention of flu and colds

What are the dangers?

According to the scientific community, the use of colloidal silver in the treatment of the various diseases listed above carries little risk of side effects.

However, when taken regularly and in high doses, colloidal silver can lead to a risk of argyrinism.

This is a secondary reaction in which the skin turns irreversibly blue.

This phenomenon is explained by the accumulation of silver derivatives in various cells (bone marrow, liver, etc.) that play an immunological role for the body.

Furthermore, relying solely on colloidal silver to treat an infection can delay a visit to the doctor.

In fact, despite the advantages of this solution, it is still necessary to consult a doctor in order to obtain a reliable diagnosis.

Colloidal silver: how to use?

Recommended external use

Colloidal silver has healing, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

It may therefore be interesting to use it to treat certain conditions.

On the other hand, due to a lack of data and in order to avoid any health risks, its internal use is strongly discouraged.

In addition, the marketing of colloidal silver for internal use has been formally banned in Europe since 1990.

In order for a product to be sold, it must be labelled for 'external use'.

With this in mind, several external uses of colloidal silver remain possible in both humans and animals.

In humans it can be used for treatment:

Sore mouth

Colloidal silver can be used as a mouthwash for fungal infections, gingivitis or tooth recession, taking care not to swallow.

Redness of the eyes

For irritation or inflammation of the eyes, colloidal silver can be used in the form of eye drops.

Use a pipette to distil one drop into each eye once or twice a day. This will hydrate and soothe the eyes.

Sore throat and nose

In spray form, colloidal silver can be sprayed into the throat to soothe and strengthen its natural defences.

At the level of the nose, this natural antiseptic moisturises the mucous membranes and has the power to limit snoring.

Acne

Colloidal silver can be a natural solution to treat pimples caused by excess sebum and limit the proliferation of bacteria.

To use, simply apply a cotton ball soaked in colloidal silver to visible pimples on a daily basis.

At the same time, spraying the face with the product can limit the development of other pimples.

Eczema or psoriasis

These common skin conditions cause red, swollen patches to appear on certain parts of the body.

They cause considerable itching and irritation on a daily basis.

Additional information

These skin conditions can be triggered by a number of factors, including stress, heredity or, in adults, a respiratory infection.

Colloidal silver can be used as a natural antipruritic.

Its anti-inflammatory properties are also helpful in preventing the spread of redness.

Colloidal silver is also of interest in animals. It can be used as an anti-infective and antiseptic.

Precautionary measures

Check the composition and the name:

There are several categories of products on the health food market that are marketed under the name colloidal silver.

It turns out that some solutions are actually composed of ionic silver or protein silver.

These are less effective forms of colloidal silver.

Before choosing a product, it is advisable to check its exact composition.

To be effective and safe, the concentration of silver particles is also an important consideration.

The standard is that silver should be dosed at 20 ppm.

Seek medical advice before use

In most cases, colloidal silver has no side effects.

However, even a natural product should be used in accordance with the precautions for use.

If in doubt, or if the condition treated persists or worsens despite use of the lotion, we advise you to consult a doctor or pharmacist.
