Symptom Definition

The classic symptoms of a sore throat are usually:

  • Reddened throat with burning and irritation (typical signs of inflammation)
  • Difficulty swallowing solid food
  • Other typical cold symptoms, such as fever 
  • Possible swollen lymph nodes
  • Hoarseness
  • Bad breath
  • Possible difficulty breathing

The sore throat usually goes away in 5 to 7 days.
