Kreosotum is one of the homeopathic medicines that can relieve many illnesses, especially in gynaecology.
It is also a remedy that has been used in the form of creosote to relieve toothache since the 19th century.
Remedy presentation
Kreosotum is made from beech creosote.
It is a substance in the form of tar oil obtained after the distillation of wood.
It is an aqueous liquid characterised by a fiery, corrosive taste and a particularly pungent odour.
After distillation, creosote is colourless and gradually takes on a dark yellow colour when exposed to oxygen and light.
Like all homeopathic remedies, creosote is marketed in various presentations, mainly in granular form.
Gynaecology main indications
Kreosotum is indicated in gynaecology for the treatment of vaginitis and cervicitis.
These are recognised by the presence of yellowish, foul-smelling leucorrhoea, which irritates the vaginal lips.
The mucous membranes bleed at the slightest touch and there is an urgent need to urinate.
It is also used to treat metorrhagia, which is the appearance of bleeding outside the normal pattern.
The bleeding may be intermittent, sometimes accompanied by a foul odour, and the discharge is worse at bedtime.
Kreosotum can also be used to treat menorrhagia, which is characterised by abnormalities such as an excess of blood during menstruation.
Kreosotum is also used to treat the symptoms associated with menstruation.
These symptoms occur before the period and can include headaches, bloating and sometimes irritability.
Menstruation is sometimes accompanied by flatulence, constipation and ringing in the ears.
White discharge and abdominal pain may occur after menstruation.
Kreosotum is also recommended to regulate early menstruation accompanied by pain and abundant black blood.
Other indications for Kreosotum are infections of the genital organs, menopausal problems and pregnancy.
It is prescribed for women with pain, burning and itching in the vagina and labia.
It is used to treat leucorrhoea, which is sour-yellow in colour and has a peculiar odour.
Kreosotum is also used to relieve menopausal symptoms associated with light bleeding and irritation of the cervix.
