Stress

Symptom Definition

Stress is a reaction of the organism (physical and mental) to an extreme or important effort, not exactly a disease. It can be beneficial in certain circumstances, such as escape, fights, dangerous situations, tests, etc. But it becomes harmful to health when the body is constantly exposed to stressors.

Each person has a different tolerance, resistance and susceptibility to stress. These differences, combined with genetic predisposition, mean that people develop symptoms at different times and for different reasons.

Usually the first signs of stress are: distractibility, decreased performance, memory problems, fatigue, weight gain or loss, headaches, muscle aches.

Prolonged stress reduces the response of our body's defence mechanisms and increases the risk of illness, especially heart problems and infectious diseases (flu, herpes, etc.).

Other diseases can also be linked to stress, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc.

The most common symptoms are: ulcers, nausea, irritability, constant teeth grinding, skin and nail problems, hair loss, insomnia, delayed menstruation and sexual problems, among others.
