Scars

Symptom Definition

A fresh scar is usually red and raised. Over time, however, the scar tissue will become faded and slightly loose. The affected area remains pale and hairless and has an overall smooth appearance. This skin replacement is less elastic and will continue to develop for about two years. This can later lead to hardening and adhesions. The scar remodelling process can cause typical problems such as:

  • Itching
  • Tugging sensation
  • Aching
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Depending on their size and location, scars can also be aesthetically uncomfortable. It is not always possible to cover them with clothing. In sensitive areas such as the face, good scar management is crucial.
