Definition of the pathology

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, the lymph nodes at the back of the throat that help protect the body from bacterial and viral infections.

However, when a person's immune system is weakened by medication or illness, viruses and bacteria can enter the body and cause inflammation of the tonsils.
