Protocol for the production of ointments



An ointment is a galenic form corresponding to the solidification of a vegetable oil with beeswax. There is not necessarily a difference between an ointment, a balm or a salve. The only difference is the presence of beeswax.

Storage: 12 to 24 months in optimal storage conditions.


The basic ingredients


Production protocol

  • Determine the total amount you need to make using your containers.
  • Weigh all ingredients.
  • Melt the beeswax in a double boiler.
  • Remove from the heat.
  • Add the other oily macerates or vegetable oils, the vitamin E and mix.
  • If necessary, add the essential oils to the bottom of the jars.
  • Fill and mix quickly.
  • Label with the name of the ingredients used, the quantity and the date of manufacture.
  • Allow to cool and seal tightly.

Advice / Precautions

  • For better preservation, add 10 drops of vitamin E per 100 ml of massage oil.
