Protocol for the production of suppositories

There are two kinds of suppositories:

  • Vaginal suppositories
  • Rectal suppositories

These are the most interesting ways to absorb the active ingredients. Once the suppository is inserted, it settles and dissolves very quickly. A large portion of the active molecules do not pass through the liver and are therefore not broken down by liver enzymes, so they act directly on the problem.

Production protocol

  • Determine the quantity of suppositories to be made:
    • Calculate the total amount of active ingredients needed + 10% from the table above.
    • Calculate the total amount of cocoa butter needed + 10%.
      • Always add another 10 to 15 percent of raw material to the manufacturing process to compensate for losses.
  • Melt the cocoa butter in a water bath.
  • Wait for the temperature to drop to 35ºC so as not to alter the active ingredients.
  • Add the active ingredients: essential oil, TA or TG (see table above).
  • Mix and wait for the mixture to form a homogeneous paste.
  • Fill the suppository molds.
  • Allow to cool to room temperature.
  • Store suppositories in the freezer. They can be stored in the freezer for several years.
