An ointment is a galenic form corresponding to the solidification of a vegetable oil with beeswax. There is not necessarily a difference between an ointment, a balm or a salve. The only difference is the presence of beeswax.
Storage: 12 to 24 months in optimal storage conditions.
The basic ingredients
- Beeswax: 12 g of beeswax per 100 ml of vegetable oil or oily macerate.
- One or more vegetable oils or oily macerates
- Essential oils: 2 to 3% of total volume
- A few drops of vitamin E (optional)
Production protocol
- Determine the total amount you need to make using your containers.
- Weigh all ingredients.
- Melt the beeswax in a double boiler.
- Remove from the heat.
- Add the other oily macerates or vegetable oils, the vitamin E and mix.
- If necessary, add the essential oils to the bottom of the jars.
- Fill and mix quickly.
- Label with the name of the ingredients used, the quantity and the date of manufacture.
- Allow to cool and seal tightly.
Advice / Precautions
- For better preservation, add 10 drops of vitamin E per 100 ml of massage oil.
