  • The bark of the common pear tree contains floridzin.
  • The leaves contain glycosides, tannins, and saponins.
  • The pear contains 76 to 83% water, 6 to 13% sugars (dextrose and levulose), free acids (malic and citric acids), tannins, asparagine, pentosan, mineral salts, and pectin.
  • It also includes riboflavin, niacin, and protein.
  • The seeds consist of amygdalin and a fixed oil.

Forms of use 

  • Infusion: 3 to 4 teaspoons of fresh leaves to 1 cup of boiling water. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Strain. Drink 5 to 8 cups per day.
  • Pears can be eaten in the form of jams and juices.
  • The sprouts and young shoots can enhance the flavor of certain cold dishes (salads).
