What is activated charcoal?
Activated charcoal helps to absorb toxins from the body.
Activated charcoal, made from charred wood, usually poplar or ash, has a high absorption capacity due to its large surface area on which it can bind toxins and gases.
Ingredients
- Activated Charcoal Powder
- Note: Charcoal is also sold in granule or capsule form.
- WATER
Preparation
- Add 1 teaspoon (or tablespoon for more advanced symptoms) of activated charcoal to a large glass of water.
- Mix well and drink immediately after preparation.
How to dose
- Drink 1 cup of activated charcoal 3 times a day for diarrhoea or gastroenteritis.
- It is usually necessary to continue the treatment for a few days until the symptoms are gone.
- For flatulence and bad breath, drink half a cup 30 minutes before a meal and half a cup 30 minutes after a meal, 3 times a day.
- You can also take 1/2 teaspoon of granulated charcoal instead of diluting it in water.
- In case of indigestion, especially poisoning, consult a doctor or call a poison control centre.
- While you wait for help or medical instructions, you can dilute 4 tablespoons of charcoal in 50 ml of water or 100 ml of water and drink it immediately (you can drink through a straw so you don't get a black mouth).
Additional information
Activated charcoal may cause mild constipation and interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals, especially if taken long term.
It is recommended that activated charcoal is taken at least 2 hours apart from other medicines.
Activated charcoal is an excellent remedy and antidote.
Be careful not to take too much, start with small doses and increase gradually.
