Brewer's Yeast

Description

Brewer's yeast is a non-pathogenic fungus called Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Saccharomyces boulardii.

There are two types of brewer's yeast: revivifiable (also called active or live) brewer's yeast and inactive (or non-living) brewer's yeast.

In this article, we will only be talking about live beer yeast.

In fact, it is the most suitable type of yeast for human consumption because it regains all its properties at a temperature close to 37°C.

Once ingested, it is very effective in relieving many of the discomforts of daily life.

Composition

Laboratory analysis has shown that brewer's yeast is extremely rich in B group minerals and vitamins.

Brewer's yeast is therefore a natural food with an exceptional content of essential vital elements.

Here is a list of some of these found in brewer's yeast:

  • 35% to 40% protein including 8 essential amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan and threonine).
    • This high concentration of protein makes it perfect for vegetarian and vegan diets as a protein substitute.
  • Minerals (10%): Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Sulphur.
  • B group vitamins and others: per 100 grams it contains vitamins B1 (5-10 mg), B2 (3-6 mg), B3 (30-60 mg), B5 (10-20 mg), B6 (5-10 mg), B8 (50-100 mg) and B12.
  • B vitamins are essential for the synthesis of keratin, which makes up over 95% of hair fibres and the upper layer of the epidermis.

Brewer's yeast is then truly effective in improving the beauty of our skin, hair and nails.

Properties

  • Antibacterial
  • Restores intestinal flora (probiotic)
  • It has excellent nutritional value in terms of protein, B vitamins and minerals.
    • In fact, it contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals and 17 vitamins.
  • Immunostimulant
  • Antioxidant
  • Stimulator of the body (it is particularly effective in digestion)

Indications

Nutritional supplement

Brewer's yeast is an excellent source of protein and vitamins, as we have seen.

Very rich in vitamin B12, it is highly recommended to make up for any deficiency caused by not eating animal products.

In fact, an additional intake of vitamin B12 is essential if you decide to exclude animal products (meat, fish, eggs and dairy products) from your diet.

The B12 present in these products is not found in sufficient quantities in plants.

A vitamin B12 deficiency can be dangerous to your health and can be accompanied by many symptoms.

These include emotional disturbances as well as physical problems.

In fact, vitamin B12 is essential for the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system, as well as for the maintenance of the blood.

If you are on a special diet, you should consult a doctor who can advise you on which supplements to take.

Dosage

In order to see a physical and well being effect, the consumption of brewer's yeast must be carried out for a few months.

We recommend a cure of at least 2 months.

It is recommended to consume at least 1000 mg of brewer's yeast per day during the course of the cure in order to feel the effects quickly.

As explained above, be careful which type of brewer's yeast you take, as the only really effective brewer's yeast is revivifiable brewer's yeast.

If you are taking brewer's yeast to prevent digestive upset associated with antibiotic use, take brewer's yeast before and after antibiotic treatment.

If you combine the two treatments, the antibiotics will inactivate the fungi in the brewer's yeast and it will lose much of its effectiveness.

Side effects

Consuming brewer's yeast is completely safe for your health.

People with bowel problems may sometimes feel bloated or gassy when taking brewer's yeast for the first time.

This should disappear after a few days of use.
