Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Definition of the pathology

Polycystic ovary syndrome, also known as PCOS, is a common condition that can affect women of all ages, although it is more common in early adolescence. This condition is characterised by changes in the levels of circulating hormones in the blood, which eventually favour the formation of multiple ovarian cysts, leading to symptoms such as irregular menstruation and difficulty getting pregnant.
