Acid-base diet principles
This diet is based on the assumption that a disturbed acid-base balance (chronic low-level acidosis) would lead to fatigue and a decrease in physical activity.
It is recommended that you measure your own blood pH using urine strips once a day.
This diet is recommended for chronic low acidosis:
- Choosing an alkaline diet
- Taking a lemon cure to alkalise
- Oxygenate through regular physical activity
- Taking alkaline citrate supplements: only for people who cannot get alkaline foods in their diet
Permitted foods
In general, the more protein a food contains, the more acidic it is.
However, the classification of foods according to their acidifying or alkalising properties is very controversial.
For this reason, there are several acid/base classifications.
For our purposes, we will stick to that of nutritionist Susan Brown, co-author of The Acid-Alkaline Food Guide.
She used the scientific publications of many experts in the field (Remer, Manz, Frassetto and Jaffe) to create her own classification.
Here is a summary table of the classification recommended by Susan Brown.
