7. Essential oils for children

General precautions for the use of essential oils by children

Our children, we love them, we protect them. Some precautions should not be neglected when it comes to children. As essential oils do not all have the same properties and should not be used in the same way, it is important to bear the following considerations in mind.

The restrictions or precautions that apply to adults apply equally (if not more) to children:

  • For possible allergies: apply a few drops of the essential oil or blend you wish to use to the bend of your elbow and wait 24 hours to see if you notice any skin reaction;
  • Never apply pure essential oil directly into the eyes, nose or ears;
  • Do not expose yourself to the sun within 12 hours of using a so-called photosensitising essential oil;
  • Carefully consult the data sheets provided with each essential oil to follow the specific directions for use.

In most cases, essential oils should be diluted more for children. Again, follow your therapist's instructions carefully.

The cutaneous route and air diffusion are generally the preferred routes for children, although the oral route may be considered in certain cases.

Do not leave the bottles in the hands of children and, to ensure that the product is used correctly, do not let them use it alone.

Above all, be well-informed about your child's condition and age. Some oils are more aggressive or should be used in a specific way.

We would like to draw your attention to this point and urge you to follow the rules laid down in each formula to avoid any risk.

If you would like more information about a synergy and its effects, do not hesitate to ask for a medical opinion.
