Definition of the pathology
Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina caused by:
- A vaginal infection caused by a fungus (vaginal mycosis), bacterium, virus or parasite.
- Or non-infectious vaginal irritation
It is almost always associated with irritation of the vulva (the anatomical space between the clitoris and the vagina, bordered by the labia majora) and is therefore commonly known as vulvovaginitis. Vaginitis is a very common condition that affects almost every woman at least once in her life. It can also affect girls.
