Nattokinase

Nattokinase is an enzyme produced by the fermentation of natto, a traditional Japanese condiment.

Natto is made from cooked soybeans that have been inoculated with a specific type of probiotic bacteria (Bacillus subtilis) to induce fermentation.

Although the substance has been studied extensively in Asia, it is only recently that studies have been conducted in North America on this powerful enzyme and its ability to dissolve blood clots.

How does nattokinase work?

To understand how nattokinase helps to fight blood clots, it is important to know a little more about the nature of clots.

Clot formation actually plays a key role in our bodies.

It repairs tears in blood vessels, skin and mucous membranes and prevents us from losing all of our blood when we are injured.

Haemostasis is the mechanism by which we stop bleeding and involves certain clotting factors, including protein polymers called fibrins.

When we no longer need them, our body breaks down the fibrin polymers that make up clots.

This process is known as fibrinolysis.

A particularly interesting feature of nattokinase is that it does more than just dissolve blood clots on its own.

It also stimulates the enzyme activity in the body that is involved in this dissolution.

Human trials show that taking nattokinase significantly increases fibrinolytic activity and reduces the total cycle time for clot dissolution by half.

Indications for Nattokinase

For people who are at risk due to genetic or lifestyle factors, or whose diet is high in iron, a nattokinase AOR supplement can help reduce the risk of problematic or abnormal blood clots by exerting an 'anticoagulant' effect, stimulating fibrinolysis and improving overall circulation and blood flow.

This amazing enzyme is derived from fermented soya, an unprocessed, vegan food that is a natural choice for heart health.
